Made of Madder is the creative endeavor
of artist Cydni Carter Lopez, me!

Cydni is an artist, maker, and educator that uses natural dye and material exploration as a way to investigate the interconnected web of the world. Guided by relationship, curiosity and play, Cydni creates work and teaches classes that are stepping stones to a deeper relationship with the self and the world we are only a small part of.

She was the little kid that ran around barefoot, had dirty knees, and pockets full of special rocks and leaves. So as an adult she is often shocked at how quick humans are to see ourselves as separate from nature, separate from the trees and flowers, the frogs and deer, the rocks and rivers. In her early 30s, feeling isolated living in a city, Cydni found the way back to herself and out of isolation through studying Natural Dyes. Exploring her neighborhood and studying the history of the craft helped her find roots where she lives as well as within the larger natural dye community.

As an artist and educator she attempts to bridge the unnatural separation of human and ‘nature’ by crafting artwork and spaces that invite people to rebuild their relationship with the world we live in and are intrinsically a part of.
